Mingalaba, and welcome to Yangon International School’s Secondary program!

The secondary school at Yangon International School is a vibrant and collaborative place. We merge best practices and standards from the United States, Canada and other countries. Our high school program features the International Baccalaureate high school diploma program that is both academically rigorous and centered upon the development of well-rounded world citizens. Our strong, developmentally-centered program meets the specific needs of both middle and high school students, and YIS students graduate with the skills they need for success in the best universities in the world.

YIS students’ days include a rigorous academic program featuring individual and group project-based learning and opportunities for critical and creative thinking. Our Myanmar language and

Our Myanmar language and social studies programs have long been a critical part of our educational focus. Clubs, service learning, sports and artistic endeavors are a hallmark of YIS’s program. Through these activities our students learn how to lead in a variety of contexts.

Our National Honor Society offers an after-school peer-tutoring program, and our Middle and High School Student Councils lead events and activities which are aligned with YIS’s uniquely positive spirit of respect and shared purpose amongst students and teachers.

YIS teachers arrive from all parts of the world but unite in their dedication to YIS students and their craft as educators. Our teachers take their role as advisors of young people seriously through their interactions and support of students in their classes each day. A majority of our teachers come to YIS with higher degrees from top universities worldwide, and they are committed to continuous improvement and learning—both for their students and themselves! YIS parents are led by the PAC (the YIS parent organization) which represents parents in each grade level. Parent involvement is an integral part of the YIS philosophy. Our administrators, counselors and teachers lead workshops throughout the year to inform parents and gain their input on key matters that affect their children’s education.

YIS’s secondary school builds on the school’s ongoing commitment to high academic expectations, mutual respect, and social responsibility and cultural understanding that begins at the elementary level. Our educational team prepares lessons that engage our students and connect with the ever-changing realities of their local and international communities. We invite you and your children to join our dynamic learning setting!

‘The Eagle Way’We are very proud of the opportunities that have been created for all secondary students at the Yangon International School; we believe in the value of healthy living attained by participating in sports from elementary school through high school years.

Sport activities, particularly in a school setting, play an important role not only in regards to the physical component, but also for the emotional and intellectual well-being of the students. Through sport, leadership qualities are developed and nourished from daily experiences. Virtues such as discipline, sportsmanship, effort, respect, motivation, and pride are emphasized and make up the core of our philosophy.

We strongly believe that our Athletics are matched by no other school in the region and we are proud of what we provide every year to our community.
