YIS Middle School

Students in our middle school know that while they are challenged each day through a rigorous, standards-based curriculum preparing them for future International Baccalaureate Diploma Program study, they arrive at school ready to work together with excitement and energy. YIS’s middle school educators recognize that ages 11-14 represents a time of intense physical, social and emotional growth, as well as a time where students yearn to collaborate and connect with one another.

Our curriculum based on North American and international standards offers diverse opportunities for learning, including opportunities to strive to understand things and produce projects and presentations in collaboration with their peers. YIS’s middle school is designed to develop both individual and group skills which include academic competencies such as design thinking, critical thinking, and research. Our Approaches to Learning also focuses students on skill-building in such key areas as communication, collaboration and self-management.

A centerpiece of the YIS Middle School is Eagle Time, where students pursue passion projects, explore rotating exploratory subjects of their choice, and engage in student leadership and performance opportunities. A “WIN (What I Need) Time” features academic and tech support. Beyond the classroom, our students also participate in a variety of lunchtime and after-school activities ranging from the Math Competition Club, Model United Nations, and Robotics to seasonal sports. Through Middle School Student Council, clubs and sports teams, students find all allow students myriad opportunities to lead, grow, and learn together.
